The Shawano Municipal Pool is located inside the Shawano Recreation Center and is a 93,000 gallon indoor pool heated to 86 degrees year round. The 75ft x 25ft pool is 3ft in depth at the shallow end and 9ft in depth in the deep end. It features a large hand-painted mural, diving board and basketball hoop for swimmers of all ages to enjoy.
Youth Learn to Swim Lessons are regularly held at the Shawano Pool. Participants must furnish their own suits and towels. Patrons are also asked to shower prior to entering the pool. Classes are between 30-45 min. Please visit our Registration page for current session information. Fees vary based on length, number of classes and residency. Typical class fees range from $11.00-$28.00.
TOTS & INFANTS (6mo-2yr)*- Basic water skills are taught through a variety of games and free play for child and adult. Comfort and confidence with the water is the main objective. Safety and skills are also introduced. An adult must accompany the child during this class. Water wings and water toys are available for use during this class. Families may provide their own floatation device.
3 & 4 YEAR OLD- This parent/child class is designed to build confidence and adjustment to water as basic water skills are introduced. Blowing bubbles, breath control, leg and arm swimming are all practiced with the use of water wings. Water safety topics and fun age appropriate games will also be enjoyed. Families mat provide their own floatation device.
5 YEAR OLD- This class is designed to continue confidence and adjustment to water as basic water skills are taught. Instruction and practice of front/back glides, rhythmic bobs and introduction to arm and leg skills. Water wings are typically worn at this age. Water safety topics and fun age appropriate games will also be enjoyed.
BEGINNER (6 years +)- This class will focus on orientation to the water, elementary swimming skills, water safety and games. Skills taught in this class are: front crawl, elementary backstroke, side stroke, dolphin kick, breath control and treading water.
ADVANCED BEGINNER- Children must pass the Beginner course to register for this class. This class will focus on developing the fundamentals of swimming. Swimmers will strengthen their skills of the front crawl, elementary back stroke, back crawl, breast stroke, butterfly, and side stroke. Swimmers will also work on newer skills, such as treading water, dives and open turns. In addition to swim development, children will also practice water safety and enjoy skill practice games.
INTERMEDIATE/SWIMMER- Children must pass the Advanced Beginner course to register for this class. This class will focus on Skill Refinement while gaining strength and endurance in the water. Swimming strokes and water skills are refined to help swimmers to improve efficiency and power in the water. Swimmers will also have the opportunity to practice advanced skills such as surface dives, deep water object dives, endurance swims and flip turns.

Open swim, Family Swim, Lap Swim, Water Walking, Senior Swim, Aquacise, Adult Learn to Swim, Joints in Motion, Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga and Deep Water Workout is all programs offered in the pool.
Open Swim/Family Swim- This is a recreational swim open to all ages. Swimmers may use diving board and the basketball hoop. Swimmers must be at least 8 years of age unless supervised.
Lap Swim- Swimmers enjoy getting in a workout while swimming lap. Enjoyed by anyone who wants to swim the length of the pool.
Water Walking*- Patrons can use this scheduled time to work on mobility, stretching, or self paced, low impact exercising. Equipment is available for use during this time.
Senior Swim*- Seniors (ages 60+) enjoy 15-20 minutes of low impact, instructor led, exercises followed by free time for additional exercise & fellowship. Classes are held every Tuesday and Friday from 9:30-10:30am. Patrons wishing to attend can pay daily senior fee or yearly fee.
Aquacise*- Aerobic class designed to tone muscle and burn fat while water provides resistance and low impact. For more Information contact instructor Marcia Wilken at 715-853-4569 or marciastudio@yahoo.com
Adult Learn to Swim- Any adult looking to gain confidence in the water and develop new swimming skills. Class format is flexible to accommodate adult swimmers where ever they are at.
Joints in Motion*-This low-impact water exercise program was originally developed by the Arthritis Foundation. The class concentrates on strengthening muscles, relieving stiffness, improving balance and gaining a better range of motion. The exercises provide gentle resistance while supporting your joints. Classes are held Monday and Thursday from 10-10:45am.
Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga-This is low impact, it strengthens the core, tones every muscle and gets you on the water. Classes are run by yoga instructor, Yu-Chin Fang.
Deep Water Workout- Wearing bloating belts, this exercise program is a high energy, low impact way to burn calories. For more Information contact instructor Marcia Wilken at 715-853-4569 or marciastudio@yahoo.com
