Quest eBidDoc #9553557
In October 2024, the City of Shawano was awarded a $4.25 million grant for the renovation and expansion of the existing city recreation center located on Division Street near downtown Shawano.
This grant award will bring new elements to the recreation center including classrooms, computer labs, private offices, spaces for telehealth, and a multipurpose space. The project will also include a full remodel and redesign of the men’s and women’s locker rooms and expansion of the exercise space. All components shown on the images below that are outlined in red are considered phase 1 and will be completed utilizing the grant funds.
In planning for the future of this space, the gym has been prioritized as phase 2 (shown on the attached image in blue). Unfortunately, the grant award is not enough to cover all of the required items shown in red and the gym. The grant award does, however, allow for the city to start developing a financial plan for the gym as phase 2 much sooner than previously expected.
We will continue to post updates on this page and our social media pages as we learn more about timelines and any other updates or changes.
Expectedly, there are a lot of questions surrounding this project. We have put together the following FAQ sheet to hopefully help answer some of them. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Parks & Rec Director Matt Hendricks.
