Shawano Department of Public Works:  Part-time Seasonal Labor

The City of Shawano Public Works Department is seeking applications for part-time summer labor positions. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM and occasionally a few hours on the weekend. Some of the duties for this position would be watering, trimming of flowers and trees; operating motor vehicles, mowers, and trimming equipment; assist in street and catch basin repair, painting cross walks and curbs, repairing street signs; and perform collection services such as yard waste, wood waste and bulky item collection.

Shawano Parks and Rec:  Part-time Building Supervisor

The City of Shawano Parks and Recreation Department is seeking applications for a regular part-time Building Supervisor position.  Applications and the job description can be found below or by stopping in at City Hall at 127 S. Sawyer St., or at the Recreation Center 220 E. Division St.  The starting salary will be $13.50 per hour with additional benefits available.   Applications are being accepted at Shawano City Hall. The position will be scheduled for a two-week rotating schedule.  Week one will entail 14 hours of work, week two 20 hours of work with 9 days off in between. In addition, your schedule is set for the entire year, making it easy to plan vacations or work another job. The position is a forward facing, customer service orientated in a calm, easy going environment, working primarily afternoons and every other Saturday.  Additional fill in hours and special events may also occur. The mission of the Shawano Police Department is to protect and serve the members of the community by enforcing laws and responding to calls for service. Officers are expected to have a positive impact on community relations through meaningful citizen contacts with an emphasis on service.

The Shawano Police Department takes great pride in being progressive and looking to officers for new ideas and strategies. The police department strives to modernize and upgrade all of its equipment to ensure officers have what they need to succeed in their mission.

Patrol Officers work the Pitman work schedule (12 hours shifts with a 2-2, 3-2, 2-3 rotation). This schedule allows officers to have every other weekend off (Fri, Sat, Sun) with the longest work week being 3 days.

City of Shawano provides a generous benefits package for police officers. Newly appointed officers receive all initial duty equipment (uniforms, duty belt, ballistic vest, etc.). Additionally officers receive a generous clothing allowance. A starting sick leave bank of 360 hours, 226 available hours of time off, and minimum of 48 hours of in house training per year (not including specialized training).

For patrol officers, 144 hours of holiday pay is paid out at the beginning of December. Other benefits include longevity, and educational incentive for Associate, Bachelor, and Master Degrees.

Specialized positions available in the department include drug unit, evidence technician, dive/rescue member, school resource officer, detective, K-9 officer, field training officer, special response team (SRT) member, unified tactics instructor, arson investigator, and crime prevention officer.

Shawano Police Department - Community Service Officer

The City of Shawano Police Department is recruiting for the position of part-time Community Service Officer. A Community Service Officer is a civilian non-sworn position with the police department.

We are looking for a person with strong problem-solving skills, who is team oriented and a strong communicator.  Applicants should be someone that wants to make a difference and proud to serve the City of Shawano. 

Minimum Requirements:

1. A United States citizen and at least 18 years of age.
2. A high school graduate or possesses a GED.
3. No felony or domestic violence related convictions.
4. Possess a current valid WI driver's license. 

The starting salary for this position for entry level is $12.30/hour.  Primary hours will be weekdays, evenings and some weekends.

Shawano Municipal Utilities : Journeyman/Apprentice Lineman 

Shawano Municipal Utilities, a municipal electric utility serving over 5,800 meters in the City of Shawano (pop. 9,305) and surrounding townships, seeks an experienced Journeyman/Apprentice Lineman to fill an upcoming vacancy.

Ideal candidates will have relevant education, electrical line-worker training and Journeyman certification. Apprentice candidates will have work experience in the electrical field and must be familiar with and demonstrate a sincere interest in a career as an electric line-worker. All candidates must display a willingness to learn and take direction; be able to deal tactfully with peers and the general public; communicate effectively and clearly both orally and in writing; and possess a knowledge of occupational hazards, safe work habits and appropriate safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to apply intermediate mathematic skills, read and understand blueprints and maps, operate large vehicles and digging equipment, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form,

Minimum qualifications include: High School Diploma or equivalent and a valid Wisconsin driver's license;

(must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire), A Journeyman must produce proof of training and "Journeyman" status. Apprentice candidates will have a Technical Degree in Electric Power Distribution or equivalent from an accredited trade school, along with experience working in the electrical field.

Starting base salary range: Journeyman Lineman $83,700 - $93,000 (DOQ), Apprentice Lineman $55,800 - $74,400 (DOQ) with an attractive benefit package including health insurance and WRS pension and paid time off.
