IT System Administrator

Shawano Municipal Utilities, a municipal electric utility serving 5,700 meters in the City of Shawano (pop. 9,305) and surrounding townships, seeks a skilled IT professional to fill an open Systems Administrator position. We are looking for an individual who is a team-oriented problem-solver with a proven track record of success addressing challenging network, computing and related IT issues.

 As an IT Systems Administrator, you will work with all aspects of IT Infrastructure, including facilities, network, storage, servers, operating systems, and applications. You will assist in the installation and maintenance of hardware, software, and network administration, including desktops, laptops, phones, switches, APs, servers, among others. In addition, this position would be responsible for supporting end users and improving their computing experiences. Candidates must be energetic, focused and motivated to learn new technologies and maintenance processes.

 Minimum Expectations:

  •  Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with IT users and vendors
  • Passion for teamwork, continuing education and IT problem solving
  • Well spoken, outgoing, organized, detailed-orientated, dependable and flexible
  • Valid driver's license
  • 3 - 5 years of IT experience in a similar environment
  • Technology related certifications are a plus
  • Experience with fiber and Cat5 installation and termination a plus
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus
  • Minimum of an Associates Degree a plus

 This Position:

  •  Manages, maintains, troubleshoots and supports our users, networks, equipment, and software
  • Requires the ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing requirements
  • Responds to email requests and resolves issues in a timely fashion
  • Works with vendors on problem resolution
  • Documents calls, establishes priorities, tracks resolutions and escalates when necessary
  • Manages and maintains Windows Active Directory: creates, edits, and deletes AD User and Exchange accounts
  • Installs server and desktop operating systems, manages patching for servers and workstations
  • Administers database, file, and print systems
  • Monitors backup solution to research and resolve errors
  • Administers Hyper-V Servers
  • Provides support for Microsoft Office products
  • Shares after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call duties

 Starting base salary range is: $65,000 – $75,000 (DOQ)
