SMU General Manager

Shawano Municipal Utilities (SMU) is seeking a General Manager who serves as the chief operating officer of SMU, for the overall administration, management, and direction of the day-to-day operations of the electric utility and the fiber optic communication system. The General Manager also serves Badger Power Marketing Authority (BPMA) in the same capacity under terms of a joint agency contract between the cities of Shawano and Clintonville. The General Manager represents SMU and City of Shawano on the Board of Director of Great Lakes Utilities (a joint action agency - a wholesale power supply provider).

SMU serves approximately 6,000 customers in the Shawano and surrounding areas. SMU strives to provide low cost reliable electric service with a friendly hometown personal touch. This is what makes SMU a valuable asset to the City of Shawano. Shawano is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Green Bay, WI.  

Qualifications Include:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting, Public Administration or related fields (advanced degree preferred); a minimum of five (5) years of management-level experience in the electric utility industry – or combination of equivalent education and experience; ability to communicate, interface, and present information effectively with employees, SMU Commission, BPMA Board of Directors, Great Lakes Utilities (GLU) Board and public officials in Shawano.
