In May, 2014, the City received DNR approval to begin a shingle recycling program designed to divert shingles from the landfill to an alternative use location. Clean shingles are hauled to Northeast Asphalt where they are recycled and used in the construction of new roadways. Northeast Asphalt receives the shingles at no cost. The City is responsible for occasionally transporting the shingles from the landfill to Northeast Asphalt's Shawano plant. Contractor's that participate in this recycling program receive a discounted from the normal demolition disposal rate.
